Pre-Primary
little habitsGood Habits
Little children love routines. What feels like a chore to an adult is a game to a four-year-old, if it follows the same steps each time. These five habits make the step into school much smoother.
1. Putting things back
Toys go back in their box, shoes go side by side at the door, the bag goes on its hook. Make it a song or a race. At school, children who can tidy up feel confident and independent.
2. Washing hands
Before eating, after the toilet and after playing outside. Teach the full twenty seconds: palms, backs, between the fingers. It is the single best way to fewer sick days.
3. Eating at the table
Sitting for a meal, eating by themselves and finishing a small portion prepares children for tiffin time at school. Keep screens away from the table.
4. Bedtime at the same time
Children aged three to six need ten to thirteen hours of sleep. A fixed bedtime with a bath, a story and lights out makes mornings much easier.
5. Using kind words
"Please", "thank you" and "sorry" are learnt by hearing them. Use them with your child, and with each other, and they will follow.
Start with one
Do not try all five at once. Pick one habit, stick with it for a fortnight with lots of praise, then add the next. Small steps stick.
Parents also ask
From what age can my child join?
Playgroup starts at 2 years, Nursery at 3, LKG at 4 and UKG at 5, as on 31 March of the session.
Do you teach these habits at school too?
Yes. Good habits are part of the daily routine in Pre-Primary, with songs, charts and small rewards.
Is toilet training needed before Nursery?
It helps, but our teachers and helpers gently support children who are still learning.
